New CPO Report on Youth Gangs

A new report “Community Cohesion and Youth Gang Prevention in Six Priority Areas”, reveals the need for greater youth engagement and prevention programming investment in Ottawa for two of six priority areas.

The report suggests that giving hope to youth for the future is key.  “We see some gang activity in particular priority communities, it really is a neighbourhood-based problem,” says Nancy Worsfold from Crime Prevention Ottawa. “These young people are not a lost cause.  If we intervene early enough we can help them develop their skills and work towards a brighter future for themselves.  Prevention is key.”

Strategic Plan 2010-2012

Crime Prevention Ottawa’s new Strategic Plan is based on an extensive evaluation and consultation.  Our strategic directions for 2010-2012 are:

  • To build on the successes of the past three years and continue to respond to emerging issues,
  • To put crime prevention on the public agenda,
  • To ensure there are sufficient resources to implement priorities and programs

A technical paper detailing both the evaluation of the first 3 years and the strategic plan for 2010-2012 is also available.

Thank You to our supporters

On January 28th, 2010, City Council voted to restore Crime Prevention Ottawa’s budget.  This could not have happened without the overwhelming support shown by the community.

Thank you so much for your emails and calls and presentations.  It has been very rewarding to know that we have touched so many lives.  We look forward to continuing our work to make Ottawa safer together.
